Vocabulary of Four Weddings and a Funeral


·   Deaf (adjective): unable to hear, either completely or partly

Ex: I want to help deaf people so I will join an organization

· Affectionate (adjective): showing feelings of liking or love

Ex: While I was a little boy, she is a affectionate girl for me, but later we became very close friends.

· Bridesmaid (noun): a girl or woman who during the marriage ceremony helps the woman who is getting married

Ex: She doesn’t like her bridesmaid’s dresses.

· Self-confident (adjective): behaving calmly because you have no doubts about your ability or knowledge

Ex: When I was at primary school, my teacher said me that I was a very self-confident boy. Now, I don’t think so.

· Bridegroom (noun): a man who is about to get married or has just got married

Ex: The idea of being bridegroom scares me, because I don’t want to marry.

· Punctual (adjective): arriving, doing something, or happening at the expected, correct time; not late

Ex: I want to find a punctual girlfriend, my entire ex girlfriends were making me mad.

· Reach out (phrasal verb): to try to communicate with a person or a group of people, usually in order to help or involve them

Ex: She reached out for warn me.

· Rusty (adjective): covered with rust (= metal decay)

Ex: Unfortunately, I have to sell my rusty old car that is my first car.

· Brake (noun): a device that makes a vehicle go slower or stop, or a pedal, bar, or handle that makes this device work

Ex: I can’t use my bicycle because it has no brake.

· Nod (noun): to move your head down and then up, sometimes several times, especially to show agreement, approval, or greeting, or to show something by doing this

Ex: My teacher looked up and nodded me to come in.

· Spoil (verb): to destroy or reduce the pleasure, interest, or beauty of something

Ex: Bp Company spoiled the Mexican gulf.

· Pullover (noun): a piece of clothing, usually made of a warm material such as wool and worn over the top part of the body, that has long sleeves and is put on by pulling it over your head

Ex: My mother weaved a pullover for me, it’s very nice.

· Wander (verb): to walk around slowly in a relaxed way or without any clear purpose or direction

Ex: While I was waiting you, I was wandering around there.

· Fetch (verb): to go to another place to get something or someone and bring them back

Ex: I have to fetch my sister from school.

· Basin (noun): an open, round container shaped like a bowl with sloping sides, used for holding food or liquid

Ex: There isn’t any basin here, so I can’t clean bathroom.

· Firmly (adverb): in a way that will not become loose

Ex: You attached this box firmly, it is very good.

· Stare (verb): to look for a long time with the eyes wide open, especially when surprised, frightened, or thinking

Ex: Don't stare at people like that, it's rude

· Spread (verb): to (cause to) cover, reach, or have an effect on a wider or increasing area

Ex: Don’t blame me, I didn’t spread this gossip.

· Pour (verb): to make a substance flow from a container, especially into another container, by raising just one side of the container that the substance is in

Ex: I always spread ayran while I am pouring it.

· Envelope (noun): a flat, usually square or rectangular, paper container for a letter

Ex: I will buy an envelope for send mail.

· Nastily (adjective): bad or very unpleasant

Ex: Probably he will make a nastily joke on 1st April.

· Breast (noun): either of the two soft, rounded parts of a woman's chest that produce milk after she has a baby

Ex: I think she doesn’t have real breasts, they must be silicon.

· Gloomy (adjective): unhappy and without hope

Ex: I think cemeteries are very gloomy places.

· Self-conscious (adjective): nervous or uncomfortable because you know what people think about you or your actions

Ex: He looked uncomfortable, like a self-conscious adolescent
