Food Industry

Today we know that food consumption is a great problem in the world. There are many reasons that create some difficulties for our nutrition. Firstly, we can say that now 78% of humans are living in cities. However, we know there aren’t enough spaces for agriculture in cities and the other agriculture and livestock sector have to feed other cities. Because of this, we see high prices in the markets because of costs like transportation. This is a global problem that we confront everyday in every country.
The main difference in food industry between Turkey and western countries like USA is due to the method used while producing agricultural products. We can say that Turkey still uses traditional methods while USA is using other techniques that are more modern.  That is why bigger firms exist in other countries. These firms cause monopolization, and therefore, they can change the prices how they want to.  For example, in the documentary called “Food Inc.” we have seen that the American families have to pay 10 times more for an agricultural product, like lettuce.
In spite of Turkey’s semi-developed food industry, in our country we use unfortunately the same inhuman methods for agriculture and especially livestock sector. Chickens, cows, pigs… they are all industrial materials for us. We forget our humanity if we gain money. It is a great shame that we can see same things all over the world. In the documentary, we have watched many about that.

Last thing that I want to say is about “Genetically Modified Organisms”. We know that American food enterprises use GMO, which can cause cancer or seriously harmful diseases. We see that American government cannot prohibit GMO because of the oppression of these firms. In Turkey, the government has forbid some kind of GMO but not at all. I think, that’s a great threat for our health.

The story that I have read is about true love and self sacrifice. In this short article, I will present my opinions about these themes.
First of all, love is a basis of a good relationship and it makes the emotional bonds stronger. Since we have discovered the feeling of love, we have been trying to understand what it means or how it happens. Naturally, there are dozens of ideas but none of us has a satisfying answer.  In my opinion, that is why we write poems or novels, make movies or compose music about true love.  In addition, we usually talk about either the beauty of love or sufferings of love, more clearly love doesn’t make us happy and sad at the same time. We enjoy it or we suffer from love. Also, as love is something concrete, if we are talking about love, we cannot be rational. On the other hand, it is clear that we have to make an effort for pure love and I have not seen yet a love without struggle but this story is an extraordinary example of happiness because of the deep love between Della and Jim.
Secondly, self sacrifice is another theme which is emphasized in the story. We know that love is all about emotions, but self sacrifice is not. It differs from love in various things such as conscience, mutual respect or goodwill.  For this reason, if we are looking for a long relationship, we need to consider, first of all, these human values because these values will bring on the true love. In the story, this theme is given with the examples of a gold chain and a set of combs over two characters that are deeply in love.

Summary of Four Weddings and a Funeral

“Four weddings and a funeral”, by Richard Curtis, is a story that takes place in England. Because of weddings and funeral, generally scenes are at churches.  At this story, the main characters are Charles and Carrie. Charles had has a lot of girlfriend but he cannot find his true love until he meets Carrie. Carrie is a young American woman and she is friend of Charles’ friends. In addition, there are other characters, like Scarlett, flat mate of Charles; David, deaf young brother of Charles; Tom, not clever but rich friend of Charles; Fiona, Tom’s sister who fall in love with Charles…  Generally, they are all searching the true love; it is the problem of the story.
First chapter starts with Charles’ rush.  Because, there is a wedding of his friends, Angus and Laura. He is the best man at this wedding but Charles and Scarlett are late as usual.  Luckily, they can arrive right on time.  At the wedding, Charles sees a very attractive girl, Carrie and after he asks Fiona who she is. Then he finds a way to talk with her. At that night, they meet at The Lucky Boatman Pub and they slept. But in the early morning, Carrie have to go to America.

At this wedding, Scarlett is bridesmaids but she and Charles are late as usual. At the reception, Charles looking for Carrie, and he finds her but he learns that Carrie engaged with a man called Hamish. This is disaster for him. At the dinner, Charles has to sit with his ex-girlfriends. It will be very bad situation for him because he meets his another ex-girlfriend, Henrietta.  He succeeds that make her very upset. This wedding becomes worse than everything.  Nevertheless, end of the wedding he sees that Hamish leaves so, Carrie and Charles find a new chance for slept again.
In the third chapter, While Charles finds a free, no-wedding Saturday, he takes an invitation to Carrie and Hamish. He has to go to a shop that guests can buy presents for bride and groom. At the shop, Charles meets Carrie. They take a cup of coffee and talk about Carrie’s sex life.
Hamish and Carrie’s wedding is the third. It takes place in Scotland at Hamish’s Castle. While they listen to Hamish’s wedding speech, unfortunately, Gareth, their friend, falls unconscious to the floor.  He died. At the funeral, we can see that Charles and Tom change their ideas about marriage. Charles understands that he can get marry.
Therefore, the last wedding is Charles and Henrietta’s wedding. In fact that Charles don’t ready for this wedding. Then, he learns Carrie and Hamish brake up. He is confused. With David’s efforts he give up to get marry. After that, we see that Charles and Carrie live together without get marry and they have a son.
I think that the narrator try to tell us marriage is not important thing for true love. However, it is a beautiful part of our lives.  We cannot know when we can find our true love.
