Travel to My Hometown

Hello Everybody,

I will present you a city guide for three days. This city is my hometown Bartın which is a small town near Black Sea.

First Day

Bartın River

We are starting our trip from city center of Bartın. Bartın’s most important feature is Bartın River. The last 14 km on the Bartın River, between Bartın and Black Sea coast is navigable for vessels. That’s why Bartın River is unique in Turkey about transportation.

A wooden house

We can see a lot of historic mansion near this river. In addition, the city is full of wooden houses from Ottoman era. The city has had Hagia Nikola church- now; it is used for the center of culture. And also there is a ethnography museum.

Second Day

Kuşkayası Monument

We will go to Amasra which is a historic town. The town contains many historical monuments from Romans, Byzantines, Geneose and Ottomans. We can see Kuşkayası roadside monument on our route. It was erected in the Roman Imperial age.

Amasra Castle

Amasra Castle was built during the Roman period. The walls of the castle were built by the Byzantines. The front walls and gates were built by the Geneose in the 14th and 15th centuries.
The city had has two churchs. After conquest of the city by Mehmet II, these two churches were converted to mosques. Now, the big one is still mosque, the little one is center of culture.
There is a Geneose Chateau in the castle.

A view of Amasra

I think it is enough for second day, now it’s time for rakı and delicious Black Sea fish.
